Three years ago, I started writing the working mom book I wanted to read, When Mommy Grows Up: A Guide to Parenting Yourself to a More Fulfilling Career.
After many early mornings, many late nights, lots of sweat, plenty of tears, and one very important “Yes!” that book is almost here in real life and ready for your bookshelf!
So what do you say, working mom? Are you ready to find more fulfillment and joy in your career, and enjoy lots of laughs along the way?

Mommy, What Do You Want to Be When You Grow Up?
When Mommy Grows Up is based on a simple idea. As moms we love to ask our kids what they want to be when they grow up, but somewhere along the way we have stopped asking ourselves this same important question.
Why is that? We aren’t all the way grow up just yet. No matter how many gray hairs we see popping up in the mirror or how many bills come in the mail with our names on them, we still get to keep on growing!
So the challenge I gave myself, and the challenge I am giving other moms in When Mommy Grows Up is to ask ourselves what we want to be when we grow up, really ask ourselves, and then give ourselves permission to go for it.
Working Mom Book About Careers, But Make It Fun
As much as I wanted to write a working mom book about career development, I definitely didn’t want that book to be all buttoned up and serious. Because the fact of the matter is, I’m not all buttoned up and serious! As a career coach, I’m super professional, but I’m also a funny mom at heart and I know I learn best when I’m also entertained.
So I took all the parts of me and wrapped them up in a book, from my brain and heart to yours!
When Mommy Grows Up tackles the “age 30 transition” (that time between ages 28 and 40 when we start re-evaluating our choices and establishing our roles in society) with humor, wit, and practical advice.
To make it extra relatable, each chapter of When Mommy Grows Up is based on lessons we teach our children, like “use your words,” “you to need to share,” and “make new friends.” Reframing these lessons (and the funny stories that go along with them) as career advice shows moms how to apply the same concepts to their professional lives.
About the Author
If you’re found yourself here for the first time, it’s about time I introduce myself a bit!
My name is Becca Carnahan and I’m a mom of two, writer, and career coach from Massachusetts. I coach at Harvard Business School where I spent the majority of my professional career before leaving my full-time role to focus on my company, Becca Carnahan Career Coaching & Communications.
I’m also the founder of the working mom humor and career blog, With Love, Becca, you’ve landed on right here! And if children’s books are more your thing, I wrote one of those! I’m the author of Belinda Baloney Changes Her Mind, a children’s book that reminds kids and adults that they can have lots of big dreams and change course along the way.
